Александровская, Military fortification in Ust-Labinsk, Russia
Aleksandrovskaya Fortress sits on a high bank above the Kuban River, protected by earthen walls and wooden palisades. The structure has an irregular polygonal shape with six bastions positioned at the corners.
Construction of this fortress began in 1778 under the orders of General Alexander Suvorov to defend the region against raids. It became part of a larger defensive system protecting settlements along the Kuban River.
The fortress museum displays weapons and military objects from the 18th century that tell the story of how soldiers lived and worked here. Walking through the rooms, you get a sense of daily life during that period in the Kuban region.
You can walk around the fortress grounds fairly easily on the established paths. Wear sturdy shoes, especially if the weather has been wet, as the ground can become muddy on the elevated bank.
The site displays cast cannons modeled after 18th-century originals, including Unicorn howitzers made using traditional founding methods. These replicas reveal how complex and skilled the weapon-making process was during that era.
