Жилой комплекс РЖСКТ «Показательное строительство», Constructivist residential complex in Khamovniki, Russia
This residential complex contains two main buildings with clean lines, abundant windows, and simple facades characteristic of constructivist design. A raised pedestrian bridge links the structures, creating a unified living space above street level.
Built between 1929 and 1932, this experimental housing project was designed by four architects to demonstrate new ways of living for working people. It marked an important moment when modern design principles were applied to everyday residential spaces.
This complex was built to show how workers could live in modern conditions with shared facilities and bright rooms. The design reflects how architects thought good housing could improve everyday life for residents.
Located on Gogol Boulevard, the complex is easily navigable on foot with the two buildings connected by the raised bridge. You can walk around the exterior to appreciate the architectural details and see how the shared spaces are organized.
The rooftop was designed with playgrounds and recreational areas that gave residents outdoor space for relaxation and play away from the street. This elevated recreation concept was an innovative way to maximize usable space in a crowded urban setting.
