'The Ark' Church

The Ark Church is a modern church building in Saint Petersburg featuring three prominent tower-like extensions rising from its central body. The structure displays bold postmodern lines and forms that create an angular, contemporary look quite unlike traditional church architecture.

The building was originally constructed as a museum for the Ust-Izhora Plywood Factory before being acquired by a religious organization in 1994. This transformation marked the conversion of an incomplete industrial structure into a functioning place of worship.

Architects Bencion Fabricky and Igor Shmelev redesigned this space, preserving elements of its industrial past while creating a functioning house of worship. The project demonstrates how an unfinished factory museum became adapted for religious use without demolishing its core framework.
