Хилокский рынок, Marketplace in Novosibirsk, Russia.
Khiloksky Market, also known as the Khilok Market, is a large open-air and covered trading area in the southwestern part of Novosibirsk, selling food, clothing, household goods, and general supplies. The grounds are divided into several zones with long rows of stalls and fixed retail units run by a wide variety of vendors.
The market took shape in the early 2000s, during a period when informal trading hubs were growing rapidly across Russian cities following the Soviet era. Over the years it became a fixture of daily life in this part of Novosibirsk and gradually grew into one of the city's main marketplaces.
The market has a strong Central Asian character, with many vendors and shoppers from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, and their languages mixing in the air as you walk through the stalls. Spices, dried fruits, and fabrics from those regions sit alongside everyday Russian goods, giving the place a feel you rarely find elsewhere in Novosibirsk.
The market sits on the edge of the built-up area and is reachable by bus or car, with parking available nearby. Going in the morning gives you the best choice of goods and a more comfortable walk through the stalls before the site gets busy.
A notable share of the goods sold here comes directly from producers in Central Asia, bypassing large distribution networks. This means that some products arrive fresher or at different prices than what you find in the city's standard shops.
