Description
The Izhevsk Arsenal dam crosses the Izh River and holds back a large body of water that feeds into local factories and homes. The structure is made of solid stone and masonry that has withstood more than two centuries of use.
History
The original structure was built starting in 1759 under Aleksey Moskvin to provide water power for a weapons factory. It was rebuilt and reinforced several times over the following centuries as industrial demands increased.
