Krasnodar, Urban park in Krasnodar, Russia
Krasnodar is an urban park in the center of the namesake city in Russia, spreading across several hills with curving paths, play areas, and sports facilities. The grounds sit right next to the football stadium and offer more than thirty zones for different leisure activities, including an amphitheater, a café, and plenty of seating beneath the tree canopy.
The site was designed from 2015 by the German firm GMP International and developed with private funding from a Russian businessman who also financed the neighboring stadium. The park opened in September 2017 and quickly became a popular destination for city residents.
The park takes its name from the city, but locals often refer to it simply as the stadium park because of its location next to the football ground. Today you see joggers following the wide paths, children playing across the open lawns, and families pausing on benches set beneath the trees.
The park is suited for a longer visit because the paths are well lit and the grounds have several entrances that work for strollers or wheelchairs. Those looking for physical activities will find a climbing wall, a rope course, and a dedicated area for skateboarders.
The terrain modeling creates artificial hills of varying height that offer visitors changing views over the grounds and the neighboring city. These elevation differences shape the entire design and make the walk more varied than in many flat urban parks.
