Дом Никуличевых

The Nikulichev House is a two-story stone building in Ustye with a classical structure from the early 1900s. The ground floor features barrel vaults, while the upper level displays ornamental plasterwork and chandelier rosettes that reflect the wealth of that period.

The building was constructed in 1910 as a trading house for merchant Ivan Nikulichev, who operated several factories and enterprises throughout the region. Following the 1917 revolution, it was converted into a library, marking a shift from private commerce to public service.

This house reflects how wealthy merchants lived in provincial Russia and preserves the furnishings and style of that era. Walking through it today gives you a sense of the comfort and status these trading families enjoyed.

The building is located on Kommunarovskaya Street in Ustye and is registered as a regional heritage site. The best time to visit is from May to September, when the weather is dry and the roads around Ustye are most accessible.

The house was purchased in 2020 by architect Ivan Magarev with plans to transform it into a tourism center. This project could bring new life to the cultural landscape of this small Vologda region town.
