Памятник «Полуторка», World War II memorial in Vsevolozhsk, Russia.
The 'Polutorka' memorial is a full-size bronze replica of a GAZ-AA truck positioned on Rumbolovsky Hill at kilometer 10 of the Road of Life. The truck displays the characteristic form and proportions of the vehicles that operated during the blockade.
The GAZ-AA truck was deployed starting in 1941 during the Leningrad siege to transport food into the city and evacuate residents across the frozen Lake Ladoga. These vehicles proved critical throughout the extended blockade that lasted nearly 900 days.
The memorial carries the inscription 'In Memory of the Soldier-Machine,' honoring how these trucks became lifelines during the blockade. The bronze truck stands as a symbol of how vehicles and people worked together for survival.
The memorial is easily reached by public transportation or walking from central Vsevolozhsk and stands near the Church of the Holy Face. The best time to visit is during dry weather when the hillside is easily accessible.
The name 'Polutorka' comes from its 1.5-ton cargo capacity, and the truck could run on low-grade fuels including kerosene. This capability allowed it to operate without interruption under extreme conditions.
