Priyutino estate‎

Priyutino estate sits along the Lubya River and comprises several brick buildings including a main residence, guest quarters, and service structures. The complex holds over 15,000 objects from the period, such as furniture and personal belongings that belonged to the Olenin family.

The estate was founded in 1796 by Alexei Olenin, who served as the first director of the Public Library and later became president of the Russian Academy of Arts. His connections and positions helped it become a significant cultural center of its time.

The estate was a gathering place where writers, musicians, and artists came together for literary and musical evenings. Visitors can still sense how these creative people moved through the rooms and spent time here.

The estate is most accessible during warmer months and attracts around 9,000 visitors yearly. The layout is straightforward to navigate, as the buildings are arranged close together in a compact area.

The second floor of the former bathhouse near the pond served as a writing room for Ivan Krylov, where he composed many of his famous fables. This quiet retreat became essential to his creative work.
