UMMC Arena, Ice arena and sports stadium in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
UMMC Arena is a sports complex in Yekaterinburg made up of two separate halls, a large main ice rink and a smaller secondary one. Both halls are built to function independently from each other, so different events can run at the same time without interfering.
Work on the UMMC Arena started in October 2019 on a plot where an unfinished television tower had stood for decades without ever being completed. The tower was demolished to make way for the complex, turning a long-abandoned site into a working sports venue.
The arena is home to the Avtomobilist ice hockey club, which plays in the Kontinental Hockey League and draws a devoted local following. On match days, fans in team colors gather outside well before puck drop, turning the surrounding area into a meeting point for the city.
The complex is well connected by public transport, and there is parking around the venue for those arriving by car. It is worth checking the events calendar in advance, since different entrances or sections of the complex may be used depending on what is on.
The two halls of the complex can host completely different events at the same time, meaning a concert can take place in one while training goes on in the other. This level of independence between two halls under one roof is uncommon even among large sports facilities.
