Artipelag, Modern art museum in Värmdö Municipality, Sweden
Artipelag is a modern art museum spread across multiple levels with large panorama windows framing views of the Stockholm archipelago and surrounding pine forests. The interior spaces work with the site's natural topography to create a direct relationship between exhibition areas and coastal landscape.
The museum was founded in 2012 by Björn and Lillemor Jakobson, entrepreneurs behind BabyBjörn, who combined their shared interest in art and maritime life. The creation reflected a desire to establish a place where artistic activity connects with the natural surroundings.
The gallery displays works by Nordic and international artists through rotating exhibitions that present varied artistic viewpoints. Visitors encounter pieces that often merge regional artistic traditions with global perspectives.
The site is accessible by car with parking for around 350 vehicles, or visitors can take direct buses from Stockholm Cityterminalen. Those arriving by private boat will find guest berths available on site.
An 800-meter boardwalk connects the museum to the surrounding nature and guides visitors through the coastal landscape of Baggensfjärd. This pathway makes the walk between building and water an experience in itself.
