Nybohovsreservoaren, Water tower in Liljeholmen, Sweden
Nybohovsreservoaren is a water storage tower in Liljeholmen, Stockholm, built from concrete to serve surrounding districts with water supply. The structure links underground pipes with a visible concrete tower that rises prominently above the area.
Built in 1963, the structure replaced the original Trekants reservoir from 1904 to meet Stockholm's growing water demand. This modernization reflected the city's rapid expansion during the postwar period.
The tower shows Swedish engineering practices of the 1960s, merging industrial purpose with design choices of that era. You can see how such structures shaped technical progress and the city's growth.
The structure is easily visible from outside and sits in a residential area with normal infrastructure access. Visitors should know that this is a working utility facility and may not always be open for visits.
The structure includes a granite chamber that is the only visible part of the original underground water storage system. This hidden link to the older facility shows how two generations of infrastructure exist side by side.
