Sjötorpsfortet

Sjötorpsfortet is a military fortification in Huddinge Municipality that extends across multiple levels, encompassing both waterside sections and elevated fortifications on the slope. The installation features several entry points and gun positions connected by a network of trenches running down the hillside.

The fortification was built between 1905 and 1909 as part of Stockholm's Southern Defense System before World War I. It was designed to protect the Swedish capital as Europe prepared for coming conflicts.

The name derives from its waterfront position, reflecting its role as a coastal defense installation. Visitors can observe how the structure demonstrates the relationship between water defense and land fortification.

The site is best visited in dry weather, as steps and pathways can become slippery. Sturdy footwear is recommended to safely navigate the uneven terrain and grade changes throughout the fort.

The artillery battery at the summit was specifically designed for four 12-centimeter cannons, with integrated shelters and ammunition storage between the gun positions. This layout reveals how defense installations were engineered to protect crews and supplies while delivering firepower.
