Villa Sagatun

Villa Sagatun is a Nordic-style residential villa in Hägersten built on elevated stone foundations with horizontal timber cladding on the ground floor and post-beam construction above. The structure features multiple balconies, verandas, and arc-shaped windows, with the main living space being a high loft hall on the upper floor.

Gustaf and Anna Retzius commissioned this villa in 1881 as their summer residence on one of the highest points in Hägersten. The Ekmans Mechanical Carpentry Factory built it as a modified replica of architect Carl Curman's villa at the Lysekil bathing facility.

The name Sagatun comes from Norse mythology, meaning 'Saga's holy place', and this connection appears throughout the building in dragon motifs and ornate decorative details that reflect the owners' cultural interests.

The villa sits on elevated ground in Hägersten, offering views of the surrounding area from its position. Keep in mind this is a private residence, so access may be limited or restricted depending on current ownership conditions.

This villa was not built from an original design but instead adapted from an existing villa at the Lysekil bathing facility. This approach to replicating proven architectural designs was a practical method used in Scandinavia during that period.
