Hersbyholm, Historic estate from 1400s in Lidingö Municipality, Sweden
Hersbyholm is an estate in Lidingö comprising a manor house from 1854, adjoining wings, and a historic granary set within a park that now functions as a residential area. The property includes rental apartments and houses of varying sizes arranged around the original estate buildings.
The property initially belonged to Djursholm Castle's entailed estate before becoming independent through legal dissolution in 1774. From that point onward, it developed as a separate holding with its own trajectory.
The residential streets around Hersbyholm were designed by architect Per Olof Hallman in 1907 to follow the natural slopes and terrain of the land. This approach gave the area a flowing quality where buildings and paths adapt to the landscape rather than reshaping it.
The location near Stockholm provides easy access by public transport, making it straightforward to reach from the city center. Keep in mind that this is an active residential community, so visitors should respect private property and follow local customs.
A historic granary remains on the grounds as the sole surviving farm building after a 1940 fire destroyed most other agricultural structures on the property. This structure today offers a tangible link to the estate's farming origins.
