Valdorshem, Örby, Villa in Örby district, Stockholm, Sweden
Valdorshem was a villa in the Örby district located at Sparreholmsvägen 15-19, featuring large windows and spacious living areas within a residential neighborhood. The building was part of an early settlement project developed on the former grounds of Örby Castle.
After the sale of Örby Castle in 1897, Valdorshem became the first villa built when the castle grounds were divided into residential plots. It emerged during a period when Stockholm was expanding its suburbs and creating new neighborhoods for different social groups.
The property reflects the early 20th-century residential development of Stockholm, when workers and lower-level officials established homes in the expanding city.
The villa no longer exists, as it was demolished in autumn 2020. The city decided to use the site for new semi-detached houses and carried out this plan shortly after.
The property included not only the main villa but also a guest house and a barn-like storage building on an adjacent plot. This collection of buildings shows how prosperous the residents were and how generously appointed these early Örby villas could be.
