Biała Skała, Mountain summit in Western Tatras, Slovakia.
Biała Skała is a mountain summit in the Western Tatras rising to about 1378 meters, featuring distinctive limestone formations. The light-colored rock layers create a striking white appearance that the peak displays from various viewpoints.
During the 17th century, residents of Chlebnice village used the areas surrounding this peak for mountain grazing of livestock. This traditional practice shaped the landscape and the relationship between nearby settlements and the surrounding peaks.
The name refers to the bright limestone formations that characterize the mountain and are visible from afar. Visitors notice this white coloring especially in sunlight, which gives the peak its distinctive appearance.
The main trail passes through Białe Wrótka pass and bypasses the summit, though many hikers detour to the lower peak for mountain views. Routes are usually marked, but conditions depend on the season and can be slippery when wet.
The mountain contains several caves, with Baňáryho štólňa being the largest underground formation within the limestone structure. This cave is sometimes accessible to visitors and offers a contrast between the bright outer rocks and the dark underground world.
