The building of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic

The building of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic, building of the Constitutional Court

The building of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic is a courthouse in Košice located at Main Street 110 and set within a former military complex. The site consists of three connected buildings, with one housing judge offices and the main courtroom, another containing the library and administrative offices, and the third providing accommodation for judges and staff.

The site was originally a military barracks built in 1885 and later served as a police station. The Constitutional Court moved here in 2006 from the Csáky-Dessewffy Palace and began using the grounds after the Defense Ministry transferred ownership in 2002.

The building represents the transformation of a military site into a judicial center in Košice. Its facade features a statue of Justice installed in 2009 that reminds visitors of the court's role in upholding the rule of law.

The court is centrally located in Košice and easily accessible by public transport. Visitors should note that access to certain areas may be restricted and advance registration may be required for guided tours.

The building served as the court location until 1993 when space constraints required relocation from the Csáky-Dessewffy Palace. The transformation from a barracks to a modern courthouse over more than a century shows how the site adapted to changing functions and legal needs.
