Pak Phanang, Coastal district in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand.
Pak Phanang is a coastal district in Nakhon Si Thammarat, stretching across 422 square kilometers with mangrove forests and tidal flats. The river mouth creates a distinctive peninsula where freshwater meets the sea.
The district was founded in 1895 as Bia Sad during Thailand's administrative restructuring. It received its current name in March 1903.
Fishing families and craftspeople here maintain ways of working that have been passed down for generations, tied to the tides and seasons. You can see these traditions at work during local celebrations that honor both the sea and the harvest.
The district is divided into 18 sub-districts and 133 villages, located about 21 kilometers from Nakhon Si Thammarat city. Main roads connect the area easily, making it simple to explore different parts.
More than 500 buildings here were built specifically to house swiftlets so people can harvest their edible nests. This bird nest trade brings significant income to families in the area.
