Plai Nern Palace, Royal palace museum in Khlong Toei, Thailand
Plai Nern Palace is a royal museum building in Bangkok that showcases traditional Thai architecture with tall bookcases dividing exhibition spaces. These furnishings hold artifacts from the royal collection and create a distinctive environment for exploration.
The palace was built in 1914 and served as a residence for Prince Narisara Nuwattiwong, son of King Mongkut. The family occupied it until Narisara's death in 1947.
The palace displays numerous artworks and paintings that define its character. The murals and Buddha representations tell stories rooted in the royal family's spiritual life.
The palace sits at 1160 Rama 4 Road in Bangkok and is easily reached by MRT to Klong Toey Station or buses 504, 187, and 538. Plan your visit in advance since access is limited.
The palace opens each year on April 29, Prince Narisara's birthday. During this occasional opening, visitors can view a movable Bussabok throne used in guru worship ceremonies.
