Wat Phraya Yat

Wat Phraya Yat is a Buddhist temple in Bang Chang, situated at the intersection of three canals: Dao Dueng, Wat Chulamanee, and Amphawa. The waterside location shapes the character of the complex and creates a tranquil setting for religious life.

The temple was founded around 1800 and underwent significant restoration during the Thonburi period under Prince Suphanuwong. This renovation was carried out to honor King Taksin the Great and preserve the sanctuary for future generations.

The temple houses an ancient principal Buddha statue made from brick and mortar with gold leaf covering, which holds spiritual significance for worshippers who visit. This figure stands as the spiritual heart of the complex, drawing pilgrims who come to pay their respects.

The temple is located in Bang Chang Subdistrict and is accessible by local taxis or public buses serving the area. Visitors should note that the waterside location means you may want to wear flat shoes, and the best time to explore is during the cooler morning or evening hours.

The temple is known for its annual water festival during Thai New Year, when boats carry the revered Luang Pho Khao Takhrao statue in procession. This multi-hour event is a rare spectacle that draws thousands of devotees and visitors who pay respect to the statue as it travels across the waterways.
