Aliağa ship-breaking yard

Aliağa ship-breaking yard is a large industrial facility in the Gulf of Çandarlı where decommissioned vessels are systematically dismantled. Workers extract valuable metals and materials from these ships through organized procedures at numerous work sections along the waterfront.

The port developed into a major ship recycling center due to growing demand for vessel disposal and maritime trade expansion. This facility became an important location for processing end-of-life ships in the region.

Local communities near the facility have established industrial traditions centered on maritime activities, metal processing, and material recovery from ships.

Access to the facility is strictly controlled since it is an active industrial site with safety regulations. Visitors cannot enter the grounds directly but can observe operations from the water or nearby viewing areas.

Between 2020 and 2021, the yard experienced an unusual surge in cruise ship arrivals for breaking. This temporary shift revealed how global shipping disruptions can suddenly redirect entire fleets to recycling facilities.
