Tongxiao Township

Tongxiao is an urban township in Miaoli County situated between the Taiwan Strait and mountainous terrain. The area comprises 24 villages, each with its own character, where farming activities and local communities shape the landscape.

The area was originally inhabited by Taokas indigenous groups before Han Chinese migrants arrived in the 17th century and established settlements. This mixing of populations shaped the region's long-term development.

The area maintains strong ties to Hakka customs through community celebrations and traditional practices that shape local life. Agriculture defines daily rhythms here, particularly strawberry farming, which remains central to how people live and work.

Visitors can reach the area via National Freeways 1 and 3, which provide good connections to the region. Multiple railway stations serve different parts of the township, making it easy to explore on arrival.

The Taiyen Tongxiao Tourism Factory demonstrates salt production through hands-on demonstrations, while Flying Cow Ranch offers farm education programs for guests. These two sites reveal production methods that visitors would otherwise never see.
