Zhongxing Guesthouse, Historic guesthouse in Yangmingshan National Park, Taipei, Taiwan.
Zhongxing Guesthouse is a building complex in Yangmingshan National Park featuring Chinese architectural elements such as courtyards, covered walkways, and a goldfish pond set across 37 acres of mountainous terrain. The facility includes underground bunkers, tunnels, and surrounding plum tree gardens that are now open for guided exploration.
Architect Huang Baoyu designed the buildings between 1969 and 1970 as a reception venue for foreign guests and summer residence of President Chiang Kai-shek. After 1979 it served as storage for Kuomintang historical documents and photographs until its transfer to the national park in 1997.
The name comes from its role as a meeting place for important visitors during Chiang Kai-shek's era. Today you can sense this past as you walk through the gardens and courtyards, observing how the spaces were designed to impress guests.
The site is best explored through guided tours that provide access to the main buildings, bunkers, and tunnels. Wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is hilly and you will walk through different areas to see the various sections.
Madame Chiang maintained a personal watercolor painting studio on the property while the President took morning walks and meditated there. These private spaces offer a rare glimpse into the family's personal life beyond their political roles.
