Rivne Zoo, Municipal zoological park in Rivne, Ukraine
Rivne Zoo is a municipal zoological facility spread across 11.6 hectares with hilly terrain and mixed forest areas. The enclosures are designed to replicate the natural habitats of around 185 animal species housed there.
The zoo was established in 1982 as an initiative of the Rivne Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Society for Nature Protection. Its collection started with local species and gradually expanded to include animals from around the world.
The zoo organizes its animal displays by geographical regions, with sections representing African Savannah, Patagonia, Australia, and Mystery Asia. This layout helps visitors understand the diversity of wildlife across different parts of the world.
The entrance is located on Kyivska Street, and the different geographical zones allow visitors to plan their own route through the zoo. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended due to the hilly terrain and the walking distances involved.
The Night World exhibition provides a specialized experience with dimmed lighting and natural forest sounds where nocturnal animals like Nile flying foxes can be observed. This setting allows visitors to see creatures that are normally hidden, active during hours when the zoo is typically closed.
