Дрогобицький музей «Тюрма на Стрийській»

The Prison Museum on Stryjska Street occupies a former NKVD-KGB building with preserved cells, interrogation rooms, and execution chambers. The exhibition displays the conditions under which prisoners were held during the Soviet era.

The building served as a detention facility between 1903 and 1959 under four different ruling systems, including the Austrian Empire and the Soviet Union. This long history reflects the political upheavals the region experienced.

The place preserves the memory of political prisoners who suffered under Soviet rule. Visitors encounter personal belongings and documents that tell their stories.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday with guided tours available by reservation. Visitors should check in advance for group tour schedules and whether advance booking is recommended.

In 1990, archaeologists discovered remains of prisoners near the building, which were later reinterred with full honors in 1991. This discovery directly connects the site's history with the people whose fate was sealed there.
