The Prison Museum at Stryjska Street occupies a former NKVD-KGB prison building, displaying cells, interrogation rooms, and execution chambers from Soviet times.
From 1903 to 1959, this building served as a detention center under four different regimes, including the Austrian Empire and Soviet authorities.
The museum exhibits contain 55,000 items, including photographs, documents, and personal belongings of political prisoners who faced persecution during Soviet rule.
The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with guided tours available upon reservation at telephone number (03244) 2-17-17.
In 1990, archaeologists discovered remains of political prisoners near the building, which were later reburied with full honors in 1991.
