Saint Bartholomew church, Drohobych

Saint Bartholomew Church in Drohobych is a Gothic structure with Baroque influences located on Castle Hill Square at 8 Danylo Halytsky Street. The interior features three naves supported by octagonal columns, diamond-patterned brick walls, and groin vaults overhead.

The building was founded in 1392 by King Jagiello as a brick church on the site of a former castle. Major reconstruction took place in 1511 after damage from raids in the region.

The church carries the name of a Christian saint and once served as a meeting point for different communities in the city. Walking through the interior, you notice how the decoration reflects centuries of local religious practice.

The site operates as an active Roman Catholic church and place of pilgrimage, welcoming visitors at appropriate times. It helps to check service times beforehand if you want to see the interior when light streams through the windows.

The northern wall displays unusual white stone carvings showing a palm, a foot, and a head wearing a papal crown. Marble decorations frame the doorways as a tribute to those who lost their lives in regional conflicts.
