Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, non-departmental public body of the United Kingdom
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority is a public organization in the United Kingdom responsible for managing and dismantling old nuclear facilities across the country. The Egremont office is located at Herdus House within the Westlakes Science and Technology Park and handles operations for 17 different nuclear sites spread throughout England, Wales, and Scotland.
The nuclear sites managed by this authority originated from the 1940s onward and include early Magnox power stations, research facilities, and fuel processing plants. Decommissioning these locations represents one of Europe's largest environmental cleanup challenges, requiring specialized work over many decades.
Visits to the office must be arranged in advance because it is a security-sensitive workplace. Contact the authority at +44 1925 80 2077 or enquiries@nda.gov.uk to schedule an appointment or request information about ongoing projects.
The authority transferred two community centers, the Falcon Club in Egremont and the Windscale Club in Seascale, to local communities. These clubs have served the community since 1948 and are now owned by SASRA, the Sellafield Area Sports and Recreational Association.
