Duns, Historic market town in Scottish Borders, Scotland
Duns is a town in the Scottish Borders situated about 700 feet (210 meters) above sea level with views toward Duns Law hill and the surrounding Merse region. The town center contains shops, restaurants, banks, and regular bus services connecting it to Edinburgh and nearby border settlements.
English forces destroyed the settlement in 1545, but it was rebuilt in 1588 at its present location with a new market center. This relocation established it as a trading hub for the border region.
The Jim Clark Motorsport Museum displays the racing achievements of a local Formula 1 World Champion through cars and trophies. The collection celebrates one of the region's most accomplished athletes.
The town is accessible by bus and offers basic amenities with shops and restaurants clustered in the center. The elevated location means some streets are steep, so comfortable walking shoes are advisable.
A Polish War Memorial on the market square honors 127 soldiers who trained in the area during World War II. This monument connects the town to a Polish city in Eastern Europe in an unexpected way.
