Barons Court tube station, London Underground station
Barons Court is an Underground station in West London with two stations serving different lines. The District Line and Piccadilly Line share the same station complex, with the eastbound platform in an open area and the other side set in a deep cut with brick walls.
The track was laid in 1874 and the station opened in 1905 to serve new housing built on former farmland. The Piccadilly Line began running through the station in 1906.
The station takes its name possibly from an Irish estate or a person connected to the area. The spelling without an apostrophe is an English convention that has been kept to this day.
The station sits between Hammersmith and West Kensington on the District Line and between Hammersmith and Earl's Court on the Piccadilly Line, making transfers easy. Trains run frequently, keeping wait times short and making navigation through the station straightforward.
The wooden benches on the platforms bear enamel panels with the station name and are a detail not found in many other stations. This distinctive feature gives the station character and often surprises visitors who notice these details.
