London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, Administrative borough in West London, England
The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham is a local authority district in the western part of the British capital, sitting between Brent to the north and Wandsworth to the south. The borough runs from the Thames up through northern residential areas and covers both older streets and modern housing developments.
The current borough came into being in 1965, when the local governments of Fulham and Hammersmith merged into a single unit. This reform was part of a larger reorganization of London's administrative structure that brought together several older municipalities into new boroughs.
Three football clubs share the area: Chelsea plays near the Thames, while Queen's Park Rangers and Fulham keep their grounds further north. The Lyric Hammersmith stages plays and new productions that draw audiences from across the city.
Several Underground and Overground stations run through the area, offering connections into central London and other neighborhoods. Visitors find it easy to move around by public transport, as routes run regularly and cover many destinations across west London.
The BBC operates its television headquarters and large studios here, producing many programs for national television. Numerous well-known shows are recorded at this location, making the borough a center for British media production.
