Trellick Tower, Brutalist high-rise in Kensal Town, England
Trellick Tower stretches 31 stories into the London sky, featuring a separate service tower connected to the main building every third floor through walkways.
Completed in 1972 by architect Ernő Goldfinger, the building formed part of a social housing initiative to replace substandard Victorian accommodation in post-war London.
The transformation from a troubled residence to a Grade II* listed building reflects changing perceptions of brutalist architecture in British society.
The reinforced concrete structure contains multiple space-saving designs, including a separate access tower that houses mechanical systems and emergency staircases.
After facing initial difficulties with crime in the 1970s, residents established a self-management association in 1994, marking a new chapter for the building.
