Wormwood Scrubs, Urban park in Hammersmith and Fulham, England.
Wormwood Scrubs is a large open green space in west London with grassland in the east and wooded areas in the west. The layout creates different zones suited to various activities and walks through the landscape.
The land was leased by the War Office in 1812 for cavalry training exercises. Legislation in 1879 secured public access and established it as a space for community recreation.
The name comes from wormwood, a plant that once grew abundantly in the area. Today, people use the space for walking, playing sports, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
Multiple entrances are located along Scrubs Lane, Artillery Way, and Braybrook Street. East Acton tube station nearby makes it easy to reach by public transport from other parts of London.
The site is home to around 100 bird species and about 250 wildflower varieties, representing roughly one-sixth of British plant life. This biodiversity makes it a notable spot for observing wildlife within the city.
