The Tower House, Victorian townhouse in Holland Park, London, England
Tower House is a Victorian townhouse located in Holland Park, London. The facade combines red brick with Bath stone details, while the roof is covered in green slate from Cumbria.
William Burges designed this Gothic Revival residence as his own home and built it between 1875 and 1881 on Melbury Road. The architect died shortly after completing the building, which remains one of his most personal works.
The name refers to the cylindrical tower with its conical summit that rises above the surrounding roofline and defines the building's silhouette. Visitors can see how the medieval-inspired design shapes every detail, from the pointed arch windows to the carved stonework, while the themed interior rooms create a narrative experience that unfolds as you move through the house.
Access is limited to guided tours on selected days, with advance booking recommended. The narrow spiral staircases and compact layout make movement difficult for people with limited mobility.
Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin purchased the property in 1972 after outbidding David Bowie. Since then, he has played only acoustic guitar inside to preserve the delicate historical surfaces and intricate decorations.
