2b Melbury Road, Grade II listed house in Holland Park, London, England

2b Melbury Road is a Grade II listed house in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London, designed by architect John Belcher in 1877. It stands on a tree-lined residential street near Holland Park, built in a late Victorian style with ornate brickwork and decorative stonework typical of that period.

The house was built as part of the Ilchester Estate development in the 1870s, a period when this part of Kensington was being transformed from open land into a sought-after residential area. It received its Grade II listed status in 1969, recognising the value of its original architecture.

The house served as home to sculptor Sir Hamo Thornycroft, and a blue commemorative plaque on the front wall marks his residence. The plaque stands as a visible link between this building and London's 19th-century artistic circles.

The building is a private residence, so only the exterior is visible from the street, which gives a clear view of the facade and front details. The surrounding streets are walkable and Holland Park is nearby, making it easy to explore the area on foot.

Sir Hamo Thornycroft, a leading sculptor of his day, lived here, and a blue plaque on the front of the building still marks his connection to the house. Melbury Road was home to several notable artists in the late 19th century, making this street an informal hub for sculptors and painters working in London.
