Earls Court Exhibition Centre, Exhibition center in Kensington, England
Earls Court Exhibition Centre was an Art Deco building in Kensington that served as a venue for music, sports and exhibitions. The complex consisted of two main halls with a combined floor space of 42,000 square meters and could hold up to 20,000 visitors.
The complex replaced an earlier exhibition ground from 1887 and opened in 1937. The center remained operational until its closure in 2014.
The building hosted the Brit Awards ceremonies between 1996 and 2011, making it a central location for British music industry celebrations. The center took its name from the surrounding district and served as a meeting point for concerts, sports events and trade fairs.
The center had direct connections to Earls Court and West Brompton underground stations with entrances on Warwick Road and Old Brompton Road. The two halls could be adapted for different event formats.
A retractable swimming pool sat beneath the main floor, allowing rapid transformations between maritime exhibitions and other events. This technical feature made the center one of the most flexible venues of its time.
