Titanic Belfast, Maritime museum in Titanic Quarter, Belfast, Northern Ireland
Titanic Belfast is a maritime museum in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast, Northern Ireland, that extends across nine exhibition areas. The rooms guide visitors through the construction, launch, and legacy of the famous passenger liner.
The museum was built on the site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard, where the passenger liner was created before its departure in 1912. The building opened in 2012 on the centenary of the sinking.
The four-story building with its triangular silhouette recalls the bow shape of an ocean liner. Thousands of metallic panels on the outer facade reflect light over the water, recalling the shipyard culture of the city.
The museum opens year-round with changing hours, so checking current opening times before a visit is worthwhile. Admission includes access to all galleries as well as the sister vessel SS Nomadic, which lies nearby.
The exhibition displays a full-scale reconstructed staircase modeled after the ship's grand stairwell. Visitors can view original tools and personal belongings of the shipyard workers who completed the vessel back then.
