King's College, Educational institution in Cambridge, England.
King's College is a college of the University of Cambridge with a large Gothic chapel on the banks of the Cam. The complex includes courtyards, residential buildings for students and teachers, and a wide lawn by the river.
Henry VI founded the college in 1441 and linked it to Eton College, which he had endowed shortly before. Construction of the chapel began a few years later and continued for nearly a century.
The Christmas services draw many visitors each year to the chapel, where the choir sings beneath the tall Gothic windows. The tradition connects music and religious practice in a space used for ceremonial occasions for centuries.
The chapel is open to visitors at certain times during the day, except during services or events. Access is through the main gate on King's Parade, and a walk through the front court leads to the entrance.
The fan vaulting of the chapel stretches continuously over the entire interior without supporting columns in the middle. This construction was an exceptional technical achievement of stonemasonry at the time of building.
