Cardiff City Stadium, Football stadium in Leckwith, Cardiff, Wales
Cardiff City Stadium is a football ground in Leckwith, Cardiff, Wales, with room for more than 33,000 spectators on modern stands. The building includes several conference and event spaces distributed throughout its structure.
The facility opened on 22 July 2009 following plans by architecture firm Arup and replaced the former Cardiff Athletics Stadium and Ninian Park. It provided the club with its first modern home in decades, along with expanded facilities.
The ground takes its name from the football club it houses and serves as a base for Welsh sport in the capital. A bronze figure of a former team captain stands near the entrance, marking the club's greatest triumph in 1927.
Visitors reach the ground via Ninian Park and Grangetown railway stations, while several bus lines stop nearby on match days. The journey should be planned with time to spare, as surrounding streets become busy before kickoff.
The pitch combines natural grass with artificial fibers in a special system called Desso GrassMaster, which improves the durability of the playing surface throughout the season. This technique helps the ground keep its shape even after many matches and changing weather conditions.
