The Old Vic, Grade II listed theater in Waterloo, London, England.
The Old Vic is a theatre building in Waterloo within the London Borough of Lambeth. The building spreads spectators across three levels: the Stalls, the Dress Circle, and the Lilian Baylis Circle with 1067 seats in total.
The building opened in 1818 under the name Royal Coburg Theatre. It later took its current name after Queen Victoria and survived damage from the Second World War.
Kevin Spacey took over as artistic director in 2004 and brought new energy to the stage. Matthew Warchus followed him and continues building on that tradition today.
The theater sits just a short walk from Waterloo Station. The season brings classical productions alongside contemporary plays to the stage.
Emma Cons turned the house into a coffee tavern with theatrical shows in 1880 and pushed forward social reforms. The stage later served as home to the National Theatre Company from 1963 to 1976.
