London Museum, History museum in City of London, England
London Museum is a history museum in the City of London that documents the development of the city from prehistoric times to the present day. The collection holds more than two million objects spread across several galleries on different floors, guiding visitors through the centuries.
The institution emerged from the merger of two older collections, decided in 1968. The official opening took place in 1976 and brought together archaeological finds from the Guildhall Museum with historical objects from the museum at Lancaster House.
The name reflects the institution's focus on gathering objects from every district and era of the British capital. Visitors see clothing from different centuries, tools from workshops and daily routines, as well as reconstructed street scenes that show how people once lived and worked here.
Entry is free, and the galleries are open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. On site, visitors find cafes, shops and educational areas that make the visit more comfortable and provide extra information.
The collection preserves remains of a 9000-year-old Neolithic settlement. Alongside, digital installations depict life in the present and connect the distant past with today.
