Church of St Andrew, Holborn, Grade I listed church in City of London, England.
St Andrew's in Holborn is an English Baroque building designed by Christopher Wren in the 17th century, featuring a medieval stone tower clad in marble. The interior combines historical architecture with contemporary artistic elements.
The building began as a wooden structure dating to 951 and was later rebuilt in stone. Although it survived the Great Fire of 1666, repairs and modifications became necessary to address deterioration.
The church displays modern stained glass and a mural by Brian Thomas showing the Holy Spirit as a dove. These contemporary artworks shape the interior and give the sacred space a different character.
The place is open to visitors on weekdays during daytime hours and offers a quiet spot to spend time in the heart of the city. The best time to explore is in the morning or early afternoon when fewer people are around.
The church organ contains original casework from an earlier instrument that was shaped with input from composer George Frideric Handel. This detail connects the church to London's musical past in an unexpected way.
