Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Sculpture garden in West Bretton, England
Yorkshire Sculpture Park is an art park in West Bretton with 500 acres of landscaped grounds. The site holds around 90 permanent outdoor sculptures and rotating exhibitions by international artists.
The estate dates from the 18th century but became Britain's first permanent sculpture park in 1977. This transformation set new standards for presenting art outdoors.
The park displays works by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth alongside contemporary artists distributed across the grounds. These pieces create a conversation between modern classics and today's art practice.
The grounds are accessible via the M1 motorway or by train to Wakefield Westgate station. From there, visitors can take a taxi for the remaining distance.
The Underground Gallery changes its exhibition seasonally and uses glass walls to let in natural light. This creates surprising viewpoints of sculptures against the Yorkshire landscape.
