Riverside Stadium, Football stadium in Middlesbrough, England
The Riverside Stadium is an association football venue on the banks of the River Tees in Middlesbrough, England, with seating arranged across multiple levels for more than thirty thousand spectators. The ground serves as home to Middlesbrough FC and sits within walking distance of the town centre and surrounding industrial waterfront.
The ground opened in 1995 and replaced Ayresome Park after new requirements mandated all-seater arenas in the top tiers of English football. It emerged as part of a wider redevelopment project along the Tees waterfront and gave the club a modern base after decades at its former location.
The stadium displays the restored Ayresome Park gates and features statues of George Hardwick, Wilf Mannion, and George Camsell to honor local football legends.
On match days it helps to arrive early since parking areas fill quickly and nearby streets become crowded. Accessible sections are located on different levels, and food outlets are spread across the entrance halls.
A wind turbine from 2008 generates electricity for ongoing operations and makes the ground one of the first in England to use renewable energy. The installation stands visible on the site and contributes to the power supply.
