Calder Abbey, Cistercian abbey in Ponsonby, England

Calder Abbey stands near Calderbridge village with remaining structures including a nave arcade, tower base, east cloister range, and monk's bridge.

Founded in 1134 by Ranulf de Gernon, the abbey transitioned from Savigniac to Cistercian order in 1148 before its dissolution under Henry VIII in 1536.

The monastery features Norman architectural elements, including the western portal and columns decorated with plant motifs in their capitals.

The abbey ruins maintain Grade I listed building status since 1915, with sections integrated into Calder Abbey House within private property.

The Monk's Bridge, recognized as the oldest packhorse bridge in Cumbria, connects to the abbey site and remains accessible to visitors.
