Culcreuch Castle, Medieval castle in Fintry, Scotland
The stone walls of Culcreuch Castle form a rectangular tower house with three stories, an attic, and a slate-covered roof with parapets.
Maurice Galbraith constructed Culcreuch Castle in 1296, establishing it as the seat of Clan Galbraith until financial troubles led to its sale in 1624.
The castle represents traditional Scottish defensive architecture and served multiple roles, from a noble residence to a garrison for Cromwell's troops in 1654.
Situated near Loch Lomond at coordinates 56.062°N, 4.218°W, the Category A listed building operated as a hotel until its closure in early 2020.
The Napier family, descendants of mathematician John Napier, owned the castle for five generations and added extensions to the north and east sides after 1721.
