East Ham is a residential area in the eastern part of the London Borough of Newham, spreading on both sides of High Street North. Rows of brick houses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries line the streets, interrupted by green spaces such as Central Park and Plashet Park.
The place grew from a rural village in Essex, first mentioned as Esthamme in 958, into a suburb during the 19th century. The arrival of the railway transformed the landscape and drew industry and workers to the area.
