London Borough of Newham, Administrative district in East London, England.
This area is an administrative district in the eastern part of the British capital and covers residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and parkland between the Thames and the Lea. The boundaries stretch from the Docklands in the south to the northern outskirts and include several localities, among them Stratford and Canning Town.
The district was formed in 1965 through the merger of two former local authorities under the London reorganization of 1963. This restructuring aimed to streamline municipal administration and integrate the eastern suburbs into a unified system.
The borough contains multiple community centers, libraries, and educational facilities that serve its population of over 387,000 residents from different ethnic backgrounds.
Most public facilities are located along main routes and in local centers such as Stratford, where larger transport hubs also sit. Visitors moving around the district will find many bus lines and underground stations that ease access to different neighborhoods.
After the 2012 Games, several competition venues were converted into permanent facilities, including the aquatics center and the park surrounding the Olympic stadium. These areas are now open to the public and used for sport, events, and recreation.
