London Aquatics Centre, Indoor swimming facility in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, United Kingdom
The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor swimming facility in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, featuring two 50-meter pools and a 25-meter diving basin. The roof forms a sweeping wave that extends across the full length of the hall.
The facility was built for the 2012 Summer Olympics and completed in 2011. After the Games, temporary side wings were removed to adapt the building for local community use.
The aquatics centre opened to local residents after the Games concluded, transforming from an Olympic site into a community sports facility. Families from East London now use the pools regularly for lessons and recreational swimming.
The entrances are located on both sides of the building, with the main entrance facing the Olympic Park. Additional seating is installed for events, raising the fixed capacity of 2,800 seats to nearly 4,000.
The diving platforms reach heights of up to 10 meters (33 feet) and allow competitions to international standards. The roof spans the entire facility without intermediate supports, creating an open space above the pools.
