London Blossom Garden, COVID-19 memorial garden in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, United Kingdom.
London Blossom Garden is a memorial space in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park containing 33 trees arranged in three circular formations, with each representing one of the 32 London boroughs or the City of London. The site has multiple seating areas positioned next to each tree ring and is accessible through pathways near Timber Lodge Café.
The garden opened on May 24, 2021, created to remember those who died during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also honors the work of essential workers throughout London who played a vital role during that time.
The space was shaped with input from local communities, and the benches are made from reclaimed timber collected from different parts of the city by London craftspeople. This handmade quality is visible throughout and ties memory to everyday use.
The garden is accessible via flat, easy-to-navigate pathways starting from the café area with plenty of places to rest along the way. Visitors should allow time to explore the different tree groupings and the surrounding parkland at their own pace.
Eight different tree species flower at different times of the year, creating a changing display throughout the seasons. The mix of plants and native grasses also attracts various insects and birds, making the space an active habitat.
